My History and Family
Hello, I am David DeMott. I am a Westminster native. I grew up in the Countryside neighborhood in Westminster near Standley Lake. My parents still live in the same home I grew up in with my three siblings. I am married with four children. My wife and I are raising our family in the same Standley Lake area less than a mile from the home I grew up in. I love the city of Westminster and I am honored to raise my family in it. I am an IT Systems Administrator for Atkins Nutritionals in Denver. I graduated from Westwood College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Network Management and have been working in that field since 2002. I am also an adjunct instructor teaching computer classes at Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood. As with all aspects of my life and family I think it is important to be involved in order to make a difference in our community and world. I have three children that are students at Witt Elementary and one at Wayne Carle Middle School in Westminster.
My children’s education is very important to my wife and me. Likewise, we are interested in the success of our school system that is not only educating our children but those of our neighbors in our community. My passion for quality education was the catalyst that prompted my wife and I to become very involved in our neighborhood school. I am the current sitting Vice President and former President of the Witt Elementary PTO PARTners, where our credo is “Help by doing your PART and join PARTners.” It is and has been a great honor and privilege to serve in these roles where I can help grow and nurture community as well as ensure a strong, quality school community and education for my children and the children of our community. My desire to serve our community lead me to run for Westminster City Council in the 2013 election, in which I came close to winning a seat. Since that election I have found joy serving the community and city in a variety of ways. I took the role of Director for the home owners group Neighbors for Countryside which is dedicated to community and seeing our neighborhood thrive and be a great place to raise a family and own a home. Neighbors for Countryside work to be partners with the city in such events as community pride. I also have the honor of severing on the Westminster Special Permit and License Board. I have strived to learn as much as I can about Westminster’s inner governmental workings attending or reviewing recordings of all the public council meetings and study sessions. I attend both the Westminster Police and Fire Citizen Academy’s. I have had the pleasure of volunteering and many fund raising events for each, helping raise money for both needs in the community and departments. I am strong advocate of the knowledge that these programs provide into both how the departments operate and ways we as citizens can live safer lives through education.
My Goal to Serve the Citizens of Westminster
I hope to be your candidate for Westminster City Council in November 2015. I believe it is one's responsibility to make the place we live into an Authentic Community, where people help and support each other. I believe in an Authentic Community where people are safer than when they simply live in a "city." When we become involved, take part and know our neighbors, we can nurture our city into the Authentic Community it was meant to be. It is important for us to do our part to grow our city and make our voices heard. With that in mind, I feel a passion to step up and do my part as a concerned citizen in my community. I assure you that I will not only bring a strong work ethic to our city council, but also integrity, accountability, a sense of community and a strong desire to serve that will benefit this great city.
